German impressionist Max Liebermann loved atmospheric lightpainting. For Grass bleaching, however, he made use of naturalism: the grass a soft green, the clothing a blinding white, but look out for the orange hens. Liebermann illustrated an idyllic life on a Dutch farm, but it also involved a great deal of hard work. Did this have anything to do with the grass bleaching? Find out for yourself! The series “Explain art to me” is the beginning of a journey through our museums, in which works of art are explained and brought to life while visitors are invited to take a closer look.
