Abraham Mignon enjoyed painting still-life works. He draped a colourful and true-to-life heap of fruits, vegetables, flowers, birds, snails, and lizards in a moody light, essentially painted in flagrante delicto. In “Explain art to me”, Still life with animals (1660) is not quite so still. The animals are hungry and looking forward to a banquet of delicious treats. But listen and see for yourself! The series “Explain art to me” is the beginning of a journey through our museums, in which works of art are explained and brought to life while visitors are invited to take a closer look.
