60 years Cologne Museum Service
Whether young or old, sighted or visually impaired – everyone was invited to discover the full diversity of the Museumdienst Köln’s programme during its 60th anniversary year. Discovering museums in a surprisingly different way, experiencing a sense of community and engaging in conversation with one another – the Museumdienst Köln inspired visitors through workshops, guided tours and performative formats, bringing the exhibits of Cologne’s museums to life.
With the support of its Friends’ Association, the Museum Education Society (MPG), six prominent ambassadors from various sectors of the city’s community were recruited to help promote the museum’s work. Alongside Michelin-starred chef Nelson Müller and Christoph Kuckelkorn, President of the Cologne Carnival Festival Committee, the following individuals were involved: Ewa Borgusz-Moore (Artistic Director of the Cologne Philharmonic), Henning Krautmacher (former frontman of the Höhner), Nina Luig (Managing Director of KD, Köln-Düsseldorfer Deutsche Rheinschiffahrt) and Barbara Schock-Werner (President of the Zentral-Dombau-Verein zu Köln).
In addition, two graphic recordings were produced during the anniversary year in collaboration with Kirsten Reinhold as visual records of the ‘Week of Sight’. They offer a unique insight into the diverse opportunities that the Cologne Museum Service regularly utilises to make culture accessible to all.
