Thielenbruch Tram Museum

At the terminus of tram line 18, the Thielenbruch Tram Museum offers visitors the opportunity to take a journey through the history of public transport in the Cologne region. The focus is on more than 20 historic vehicles, which are presented to the public in exhibition rooms covering a total area of over 2,500 square meters. In addition, a large number of other exhibits, photos, and documents dating from 1877 onwards are on display.

About the museum

The museum displays a variety of other exhibits, photos, and documents on the development of public transport in the Cologne area since 1877, as well as on the history of the city and technology. However, the history of Cologne's transport system cannot be “experienced” through photos or route maps alone. A computer-assisted route simulation invites visitors to take a ride on Cologne's tracks, and historical KVB films from the 1950s and 1960s provide a vivid picture of Cologne at that time.

Four highlights of the exhibition in particular bring the development of Cologne's railways since their beginnings in 1877 to life : the horse-drawn tram, the first electric tram, the “Finchen” of the Cologne-Frechen-Benzelrather Railway, and the 1:1 scale model of the driver's cab of a 2400 series light rail vehicle, which will be the newest vehicle in KVB's regular service in the future.
