The EL-DE-Haus is located at the Appellhofplatz in downtown Cologne. It was named for the initials of the builder, Cologne merchant Leopold Dahmen. It was also the headquarters for the Cologne division of the Secret State Police (Gestapo) from December 1935 to early March 1945. The Gestapo monitored the populace – and their story is a difficult one to tell.
